DEPUTY GOVERNOR EMETU VISITS ACCIDENT VICTIM AT FEDERAL MEDICAL CENTRE UMUAHIA, ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR MEDICAL BILLS
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, earlier today, visited an accident victim at the Federal Medical Centre Umuahia following a road traffic incident along the Abiriba–Ohafia Highway.
The accident occurred on Thursday, February 19th, 2026, a few minutes before the Deputy Governor’s convoy passed the scene. On arrival, Engr. Emetu immediately directed that one of the severely injured victims, Mrs. Nnenna Joseph, be rushed to the tertiary health facility for urgent medical attention.
Mrs. Joseph, a Staff Nurse at Amaelu/Agboji Primary Health Centre, Abiriba, was reportedly returning from a training programme at the Ohafia Local Government Area Secretariat, Ebem, when the motorcycle conveying her collided with a Sharon mini van.
At the hospital, the casualty officer on duty, Dr. Victor Ezekwem, confirmed that the patient sustained deep musculoskeletal lacerations and fractures to her toes. He disclosed that she is scheduled to undergo surgery.
The Deputy Governor directed the hospital management to ensure that the victim receives comprehensive and prompt medical care. He further assured the family that he would personally take responsibility for all medical expenses associated with her treatment.
During the visit, Engr. Emetu reiterated the importance of road safety compliance by motorists and motorcycle operators. He wished the victim a speedy recovery and encouraged the attending medical team to provide the best possible care.
Family members of Mrs. Joseph expressed profound gratitude to the Deputy Governor for his swift intervention, empathy, and generosity. They offered prayers for God’s continued blessings, strength, and greater accomplishments in his service to the people of Abia State.
