EMETU COMMISSIONS REMODELED FACILITIES, HANDS OVER POLICE AREA COMMANDER’S QUARTERS IN UKWA WEST
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, commissioned the remodeled Works & Lands Building, Legislative Complex, and Asa Multipurpose Hall at the Ukwa West Local Government Council Headquarters, Okeikpe, and formally handed over the keys to the remodeled quarters of the Area Commander of the Nigeria Police at the council headquarters.

Addressing stakeholders, community leaders, and residents at the event, the Deputy Governor conveyed the goodwill of the Executive Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, and reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to strengthening institutions, deepening grassroots governance, and enhancing security across the state.

He described the remodeling of the facilities as a practical demonstration of responsible leadership and effective resource management, stressing that conducive working environments are essential for productivity and accountability.
“Today’s commissioning is a clear statement that governance must be structured, organized, and people-focused. When we strengthen institutions at the grassroots, we strengthen the entire state,” the Deputy Governor stated.

On the handover of the Police Area Commander’s quarters, he emphasized that security remains central to the development agenda of the present administration, noting that decent accommodation for security personnel improves operational efficiency and morale.

“Security and development go hand in hand. By providing befitting accommodation for our security officers, we are reinforcing our commitment to protecting lives, property, and investments in Ukwa West and across Abia State,” he added.

Earlier in his remarks, the Mayor of Ukwa West LGA, Pastor Dike Briggs Nwankwo, disclosed that within about 15 months in office, his administration has completed nearly 20 projects, with several others ongoing. He attributed the achievements to the enabling environment created by Governor Otti and noted that the remodeled facilities will enhance administrative operations, legislative functions, and civic engagement within the council area.

The Member representing Ukwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Godwin Adiele, commended the Council Chairman for the visible developmental strides and appreciated the Deputy Governor for honouring the invitation, while conveying the gratitude of the people for the ongoing support from the state government.


In their separate remarks, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ikechukwu Uwanna, SAN, as well as the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Philemon Ogbonna, urged eligible residents to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). They emphasized that active participation in the electoral process is vital to sustaining development and ensuring the continuity of the present administration beyond 2027. They lauded the improved relationship between Asa and the current administration, and praised the impactful development in Ukwa West.

The ceremony attracted government officials, Labour Party leaders, Abia Arise members, traditional rulers, and members of the community.
