OBU AKPAKARA PRESENTS NEWLY ELECTED OFFICIALS TO DEPUTY GOVERNOR EMETU

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, on Sunday, February 22, 2026, received the newly elected executives of Obu Akpakara at his residence in Ohafia.

Welcoming the delegation, the Deputy Governor expressed appreciation for their visit and reaffirmed the commitment of the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, to transparency, accountability and prudent management of public resources.

Responding to public concerns about government financing, Engr. Emetu stated that the funds being deployed for developmental projects across the state are government revenues and not borrowed funds. He emphasized that the administration remains transparent and judicious in the use of state resources.

He noted that the prompt payment of salaries and pensions has helped sustain families and stimulate economic activities across communities. The Deputy Governor commended Obu Akpakara for their consistent support and humanitarian services, urging them to sustain the tempo.

Engr. Emetu further disclosed that work is ongoing to improve power supply in Ohafia and its environs, revealing that cable wires and concrete poles are currently being mounted for the installation of a power grid that will provide more stable electricity to the area.

He reiterated that the primary responsibility of government is to create an enabling environment for businesses and citizens to thrive. He highlighted ongoing investments in road infrastructure, power provision, free and compulsory primary and junior secondary education, and the transition to a Smart School education system as key pillars of the administration’s development agenda. He encouraged community leaders and stakeholders to continue doing the right things to set positive examples for younger generations.

In his remarks, the Eze of Obu Akpakara, Chief Dr. Emma Jesus, commended the Governor and his Deputy for what he described as transformational projects across the state. He particularly praised the Umuahia–Abiriba–Ohafia road project, describing it as a major relief to the people of Abia North. He assured the Deputy Governor of the group’s continued support for the administration.

Earlier, the Spokesperson of Obu Akpakara, Mr. Sunday Ndukwe, said the delegation was at the Deputy Governor’s residence to formally present the newly elected executives to him in his capacity as Patron of the association.

He disclosed that the group is mobilizing its members to participate actively in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise alongside their families and associates. Mr. Ndukwe described Obu Akpakara as one of the largest socio-cultural groups in the state, comprising organized members from Ohafia, Abiriba and Nkporo clans in Abia State, as well as the Edda clan in Ebonyi State, engaged in philanthropy and humanitarian services, with members at home and in the diaspora.

He also commended the Governor for executing road projects across the state, irrespective of whether they are federal, state or local roads, noting that the administration’s priority is the wellbeing of the people.

Members of the delegation included the Vice President, Mr. John Kalu Dike; the Treasurer, Mr. Okoro Ibe; and other executive members of Obu Akpakara.
