The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has commended mothers for their sacrifices and vital role in building strong families and society.

The Deputy Governor gave the commendation at the 2026 Mothering Sunday celebration of St. Thomas Anglican Church, Umuana Ndume Ibeku in Umuahia North LGA, where he was represented by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Cyril Chukwudi Eke Mba.

Speaking at the event, the Deputy Governor praised mothers for their immeasurable love, dedication, and commitment to nurturing families and shaping the moral fabric of our society. He noted that mothers remain the backbone of every stable home and a vital force in the growth and development of the state.

Engr. Emetu therefore encouraged them to continue to uphold the noble values of care, patience, and guidance that strengthen families and communities.

The Deputy Governor’s representative also highlighted the present administration’s commitment to gender inclusion, as demonstrated in the appointment of women of proven competence into key positions in the State Executive Council and various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) by the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR.

He further encouraged the mothers to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enable them actively participate in the democratic process.

Sir Cyril Mba also assured the congregation of the state government’s continued commitment to policies and programmes that support the wellbeing of women and families across Abia State.

During the service, the church offered special prayers for the leadership of the state and all those appointed to serve in various capacities in government.

The celebration was made even more memorable as the Minister-in-Charge of the church, Venerable Prince Chikezie Onuigbo, marked his 46th birthday, making it a double celebration for the congregation.
