Deputy Governor Emetu Hosts Ohafia Stakeholders as Labour Party Registration Gains Momentum

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to grassroots political engagement and inclusive governance as he hosted Labour Party stakeholders from Ohafia Local Government Area at his country home in Amaekpu Ohafia.

The meeting, which is part of a series of engagements held over consecutive weekends, focused on the ongoing Labour Party online membership registration exercise. Addressing attendees, the Deputy Governor commended stakeholders for their consistency and dedication, describing their turnout as a strong indication of commitment to both party growth and the development of Abia State.

He urged participants to sustain the momentum and ensure the success of the registration exercise, which he noted has recorded a significant increase in participation across Ohafia LGA. According to him, the surge reflects growing public confidence in the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, whose policies he described as people-oriented and inclusive.

Emetu highlighted that the government’s focus on good governance, community development, and reliable welfare services continues to resonate with citizens, further strengthening support for the Labour Party across the state.

Stakeholders at the meeting expressed appreciation to Governor Otti and the Deputy Governor for providing the necessary logistics and support that have enabled a smooth and efficient registration process. They noted that the initiative has not only enhanced participation but also deepened political awareness at the grassroots.

The gathering drew an impressive lineup of political leaders and stakeholders, including former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, PhD; the Mayor of Ohafia LGA, Hon. Eleanya Ojuu Kalu, alongside his Deputy, Hon. Eme Iro; and members of the Abia State House of Assembly representing Ohafia South and Ohafia North constituencies, Hon. Kalu Mba Nwoke and Hon. Mandela Obasi, respectively.

Also in attendance were former federal lawmaker Rt. Hon. Prince Arua Arunsi; the Accountant General of the State, Mrs. Njum Nnennaya Uma-Onyemenam; Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Prof Uche Eme Uche; Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. David Kalu; and several other members of the State Executive Council.

Others included the Managing Director of the Abia State Road Traffic and Safety Management Agency, Col. Ezichi Kalu (Rtd); Executive Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Kalu Ulu Kalu; and Director-General of Greater Ohafia Development Authority (GODA), Elder Engr Obinna Odum.

The presence of former local government officials, councillors, Labour Party leaders, and grassroots mobilizers further underscored the widespread support for the current administration and the strengthening of party structures in the area.

As the registration exercise continues, the sustained engagement between government officials and grassroots stakeholders is expected to further consolidate the Labour Party’s presence in Ohafia LGA and across Abia State.
