EMETU TO ABIA TEACHERS: YOU ARE BUILDING THE ABIA OF TOMORROW
The Deputy Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, FNSE, has paid tribute to teachers across the State as the world marks Teachers’ Day, describing their work as one of the most important investments in the future of Abia.
In his message marking the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, Engr. Emetu celebrated teachers for the patience, dedication, professionalism and sacrifices they bring to their classrooms every day. He noted that long after a lesson has been taught and a school day has ended, the influence of a good teacher continues to live in the character, knowledge, confidence and ambitions of the children they have helped to shape.
The Deputy Governor emphasised that teachers are much more than classroom instructors. They are mentors, role models, talent discoverers and character builders who help young people develop the discipline, values and skills required to become responsible citizens and future leaders. He commended Abia teachers for remaining resilient and committed to their duties despite the challenges confronting the profession.
Engr. Emetu said the administration of Governor Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, understands that no meaningful transformation can be sustained without a strong education system and dedicated teachers. He reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to strengthening education and creating an environment in which teachers can thrive, while encouraging educators to embrace continuous professional development, innovation and technology without losing sight of the timeless values of integrity, excellence and service.
He also urged parents, communities and other stakeholders to support teachers and schools, noting that the responsibility for educating and preparing the next generation cannot rest on teachers alone. On behalf of the Government and people of Abia State, Engr. Emetu expressed deep appreciation to teachers for their service, assuring them that their efforts are recognised and valued. He wished teachers across the State a happy and rewarding World Teachers’ Day, while encouraging them to remain steadfast in building the Abia of tomorrow.
