REVIVING HISTORY: STAR PAPER MILL RETURNS TO ABIA STATE 

The administration of Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, the Executive Governor of Abia State has officially taken back the iconic Star Paper Mill from AMCON, marking a pivotal step in the “New Abia” industrial revolution. This is not just about reclaiming an asset; it is about restoring a proud piece of our history and unlocking our economic future.

Founded in 1976 by the late Chief Nnanna Kalu, this mill once provided thousands of jobs. Under Governor Otti’s leadership, it is poised to do so again, with the potential to create 3,000 to 5,000 new jobs and attract significant private investment.

True to his campaign promise, Governor Otti is reviving moribund industries not to run them, but to de-risk them for the private sector. “We are not acquiring to keep,” he stated, challenging Abia’s business chambers to step up. The government’s role is to lead from the front and hand over to capable investors.

This strategic move, backed by a ₦2.5 billion payment, signals more to come, with Afro Beverages also in the pipeline. It is a clear statement: Abia State is open for business and committed to rebuilding its industrial base from the ground up.
