Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa Rolls Out Free Transport Initiative for Ohafia Residents Amid Okada Ban

Hon. Chief Ikenna Nicolas Ukwa, the All Progressives Congress (APC) flag bearer for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency, has launched a temporary free transportation scheme to support residents of Ohafia following the ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) in the area.

The initiative, which operates along the Amaekpu–Akanu route, is designed to ease the transportation difficulties experienced by residents who have struggled with increased commuting costs and limited mobility since the enforcement of the restriction on commercial motorcycle operations.

The free transport service is being implemented through the Ikenna & Jenn Ukwa Foundation in partnership with the Ikenna Ukwa Progressive Group as part of efforts to cushion the immediate impact of the policy on the people.

Beneficiaries of the initiative include traders travelling to markets, farmers transporting agricultural produce, students commuting to schools, civil servants, artisans, women, the elderly and other residents who rely on affordable transportation for their daily activities.

The intervention is expected to reduce transportation expenses for many households, improve access to workplaces, schools and markets, and provide temporary relief while residents adjust to the new transportation realities.

Residents have welcomed the initiative, describing it as a timely response to the challenges created by the ban on commercial motorcycles. Many commended Hon. Ukwa for responding to the needs of the people with a practical solution that directly addresses their immediate concerns.

As operations commence between Amaekpu and Akanu, residents have been encouraged to make good use of the service and cooperate with operators to ensure its smooth and effective operation.
