2027: SDP Arochukwu Chapter Backs APC’s Ikenna Ukwa for Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Seat

A major political realignment may be taking shape in Arochukwu Local Government Area ahead of the 2027 general elections, as the Social Democratic Party (SDP) Arochukwu LGA chapter has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency seat, Chief Ikenna Nicholas Ukwa.

The endorsement was contained in a communique dated August 6, 2026, and signed by the SDP Arochukwu LGA Chairman, Elder Nnanna Isaac Uwakwa, and the party’s Secretary, Chief Agwu Ogbonnaya Godwin.

The document was also endorsed by the chairmen of the party across the 11 wards in Arochukwu LGA, following an extensive meeting involving members of the LGA executive committee, ward chairmen, stakeholders and other party members.

According to the communique, the decision followed consultations with members and critical stakeholders within the local government.

The SDP leadership said it resolved to place the interests of the people of Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency above partisan considerations, leading to its decision to support Ukwa, who is contesting under the platform of the APC.

The party described Ukwa as a candidate with the vision, competence, capacity, experience and commitment required to provide effective representation and attract meaningful development to the constituency.

The SDP chapter further expressed confidence that his leadership would contribute to economic growth, youth empowerment, infrastructural development, education, healthcare and an improved quality of life for constituents.

It subsequently directed its members, supporters and political associates across the 11 wards of Arochukwu LGA to work together, mobilise grassroots support and vote for Ikenna Ukwa in the 2027 National Assembly election.

The endorsement represents a notable cross-party development in the build-up to the 2027 election, particularly as a chapter of the SDP has publicly thrown its weight behind a candidate contesting on the platform of the APC.

The development could further intensify political realignments and grassroots mobilisation in Arochukwu LGA as political parties and candidates begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 contest for the Arochukwu/Ohafia Federal Constituency seat.
